Silver Saddle Ranch

Christa Tudor woke up crying. Why did she keep having dreams about the accident? It happened five years ago. Chris looked at the clock. It was 4:53. She put on a T-shirt, jeans, and boots.

She quietly crept into the attic. She got out her grandfather’s violin and played a few songs. She then went to the kitchen and grabbed an apple. After she took a bite, she went outside. She headed to the stables and stopped at her horses stall. There he was. Golden Legacy. She remembered getting him for her twelfth. birthday. It was the last birthday that her mom was alive to celebrate.

She gave Legacy the rest of her apple and saddled him up. Chris mounted him and headed to the woody part of the ranch.

She lived on this ranch her whole life. She grew up around horses. She knew her father was worried about her becoming a loner, but she wasn’t. As long as she had horses and God, she would never be alone.



Laura Jones awoke and couldn’t wall back to sleep. She lied there thinking about her life before coming to Silver Saddle Ranch. Her father kicked her mom and her out of the house when she was seven. They had an apartment, but got evicted. Her mom didn’t go to college. So, she couldn’t get a very good job. They lived at a Christian homeless shelter for a time. Then they were in the grocery store and heard some women talking about SSR. That’s how they got here. They had been here for three wonderful months.

She looked at her mom sleeping on the bed across the room. Laura knew that her mom was mad at God. Laura recalled the day she went to church with a friend and became a believer in God.

She remembered her mom saying, “If you wanted to believe that stuff, fine! But leave me out of it!”

She prayed for her mom everyday, and Laura would continue to do so until she found God.

Laura heard some noise outside.

Who could be up it’s 5:00 in the morning.

She slipped into some clothes and went outside. In the distance she saw Christa Tudor with her horse, Golden Legacy. Chris mounted to horse and began to ride.

Why is she up this early?

When Marcus entered the stable, Chris managed to pull herself together. It wasn't his fault they were in this mess. She nodded at his request and said, "You will have to talk to my dad, Ryan Tudor. He is usually in his office, but right now, I think he is picking my sister up from the hospital."

Thank you and if i look like the thief he is my twin brother. said Marcus then saddled his horse and road out into the forest.

Ryan didn't know what to do. Let's just say that this obviously...stressed him out. Walking around nervously, he felt anxious for Gabriel. He thought that he was a good kid, and he hoped nothing bad happened to him.

When they got to the ranch, Gabriel climbed out of the car and thanked the policeman for the ride, then walked off toward the stables.

Laura saw Gabriel come back. Thank goodness. She was about to go up to him, but then she saw Ryan and Melody Tudor pull up in the driveway. Laura walked over to say hi.

Gabriel walked up the small hill that led to the ranch. He wasn't sure what to do anymore. He saw Mr. Tudor drive up and decided to try and talk it over with him. Walking over he nervously got his attention. "Mr. Tudor, I need to talk with you... Do you have a moment?"

Ryan Tudor nodded to Gabriel when he saw Laura coming to talk to Melody. He spoke first, "What did you want to talk to me about?"

"About what I should do. Whether I should stay or... leave." Gabriel looked at Mr. Tudor nervously. "You're in charge of this farm, and you are the... well, the one person I can come to to get some real advice."

Melody got out of the car. She didn't need any help; she felt much better after being cooped up. Getting out of the car, she saw Laura. She smiled and said hey.

Laura smiled and walked over to Melody, "Hi! I'm glad to see you back! Are you feeling okay?" She asked as they began to walk to the ranch house.

Ryan motioned Gabriel to come into his office. They both sat down, and Ryan began to speak, "I would love if you stayed here...I think I could give you better advice if you tell me why you are thinking of leaving this place."

"Yeah...I still have no idea what went wrong with me. I'm totally fine now. Just some thoughts...stuff I'd rather not say," she said and stopped next to the house.

Laura nodded, "If you ever need to talk about it, I'm just a holler away," She said with a souther accent. She gave Melody a wink then said goodbye.

As soon as he saw that a man and a girl arrive he knew it was Ryan Tudor. He raised back to ask Chris if he could meet him. ''Hey Chris could I now meet your father.''

Gabriel put his hands flat on the table and tried his best to explain.
"You see, I've been on my own for... about five years now. And, although I do like it here, and the work is actually easier than some of the other farms and... places I've been at, I'm just hesitant to be around- people. Plus this recent thing has.. to be honest, gotten me uncertain about staying. That make any sense?"

Chris nodded, "Sure. Let's go meet him," They entered Ryan Tudor's office. He was talking to Gabriel. Chris quietly said, "Sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt."

Ryan nodded. He leaned closer to Gabriel and whispered so only he could hear his words, "Don't leave yet. Give this place some time," He they turned to his daughter and a boy he had never seen, "What can I do for you?"

"I'll leave you to your business," Gabriel said politely as he got up from his chair, "And Mr. Tudor? Thanks again."

Ryan needed to go talk to Mr. Tudor to find out whether or not Gabriel would be leaving. But then he saw Gabriel himself, so he decided to go talk to him.

Gabriel left the room and silently closed the door with a practiced hand. Turning around he saw Ryan. Rubbing the back of his neck he walked over to him. "Hey Ryan, what's up?"

Chris left Marcus with her father and headed off to the stable. She waved to Laura who was grooming a horse. Chris saddled up Golden Legacy and mounted him. She then headed off to the forest.

Ryan couldn't help but smile despite his efforts. Pleased to see Gabe, he asked the question he'd been wanting to ask. "Well...are you leaving or not?"

Gabriel stayed solemn. "Where's Brooke? I don't want to repeat this twice." He lowered his head slightly, as if in deep thought.

Ryan Tudor nodded. He gave Marcus information about the place. Then he gave him a key to the cabin. Before Marcus left for his cabin, Ryan whispered, "There's food int the fridge."

Brooke finished her looong walk, and emerged from the woods. She did not like the heavy weight that the air held, and she didn't just feel the humidity.

After Laura finished her chores, she walked outside and breathed in the fresh air. Her thoughts turned to her father and what Ryan said. She knew that she had to forgive him. She knew that she had to look for him.

Ryan said, "Oh...she's around here. The woods? Let's go check." He walked to the woods opening and saw Brooke coming out. "Hey Brooke? Gabriel has something to say."

Brooke looked past Ryan and gave Gabriel a questioning look.
